Jestico + Whiles has designed a state-of-the-art international school campus for Doha College, located in Al-Wajba near Education City. This visionary project, commissioned through an international design competition, can accommodate up to 2,500 students, and the current cohort is drawn from more than 76 nationalities. The new campus blends British educational principles with innovative design, tailored for Doha’s unique climate and culture. The school includes nursery, primary and secondary schools, alongside exceptional sports facilities available to the whole school community. A covered walkway connects external circulation between each of the blocks, providing protection from the aggressive sunshine, and the courtyards and terraces support external learning despite the harsh climate.

“Our new campus never fails to impress. We are all exceedingly proud to have completed this mammoth project on time and within budget. ”

Dr Steffen Sommer, Former Principal
Doha College

“On the journey to completing the design, Jestico + Whiles was always able to go the extra mile to meet and understand their client’s requirements. Working with an architect that tries to get to the bottom of a client’s requirements rather than dictating a solution is one of their strengths.”

The architectural design solution for Doha College is based on the notion of a school for all ages ‘under one roof’, with a common entrance and dedicated zones for primary and secondary pupils, and first class sports and drama facilities.

The design builds on Jestico + Whiles’ extensive experience of designing learning environments, adapting the ‘essence’ of a British school to the sands of the Arabian Peninsula. In developing this education vision into a masterplan, the team applied educational expertise and technology from the UK to the Doha climate.

The new campus, completed in September 2020 (the school’s 40th anniversary), provides teaching and learning facilities that enable the College to maintain its excellent reputation within Qatar and the wider region, while providing a truly exceptional British education for its students.
